Dear President-Elect Trump

Dear President-Elect Trump,

Congratulations on your victory in the hard-fought 2016 presidential election. You are going to be the 45th president of the United States of America! The most powerful man in the world! What a tremendous, tremendous accomplishment.

Now your work begins on guiding the course of American and human history. This is a tremendous responsibility.

One challenge you will face has tremendous importance to this responsibility. Over the past century, humanity’s dependence on fossil fuel energy has caused dramatic global warming, threatening the stability of civilization in coming decades.

Earth’s average temperature has already risen by one degree since the 19th century. Hundreds of billions of tons of ice melt into the oceans every year; sea level is steadily rising; wildfires, droughts, floods, and heat waves are becoming more common and more destructive. The Pentagon has reported that climate change will exacerbate conflicts around the globe as many millions of people will be displaced, posing significant challenges to national security. You’re a businessman, so you’ll also understand the threat of natural disasters and rising seas to trillions of dollars of American real estate.

The good news is that after many years of diplomacy, the world is now coming together under the Paris Agreement to transition the world toward clean energy. The United States will do its part through the Clean Power Plan, announced just last year, implementing the Clean Air Act as mandated by the US Supreme Court.

Mr. President-Elect, you can continue this progress. Uphold the Paris Agreement. Implement the Clean Power Plan. Invest in science and the energy sources of the future so that America can continue to lead the world.

This website was created to fight those in denial about the threat of global warming, and I am greatly concerned that you have invited some of these people into your administration. I hope you will work together with scientists, and not with those who oppose science.

I pray that future generations will remember you as the president who helped usher in a new era of sustainable civilization. I wish you tremendous success.

Best wishes,

Randall First
